Crosby Chairs: Replica Saarinen Chair Executive Series

The Maxwell Blake crosby chairs pay homage to the Saarinen chair – reproducing mid-century modern icons from the 70 Series Executive Seating Collection, designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll in 1950.

Eero Saarinen was a Finnish-American architect and industrial designer, born in 1910 to an influential Finnish architect father and textile designer mother.

His Saarinen chair 70 series is easily recognizable as a symbol of American modernism with designs that employ modern materials in graceful, organic shapes. This aesthetic is demonstrated in all Saarinen's masterful creations such as his womb chair and sofa, or tulip chairs and pedestal tables – quality replicas of which are also available from Maxwell Blake.

The design of Saarinen's Executive Side Chair and Executive Armchair 70 Series began a decade prior to their release; after winning the Museum of Modern Art's Organic Design in Home Furnishings Competition in 1941, with Charles Eames, for their innovative experiments with bent plywood. The Saarinen chair design process intended to explore the possibilities of achieving comfort through the shape of its shell. Originally made of fiberglass, but later updated to use polyurethane, the sculptural molded shell flexes slightly to conform to the human shape.

Our crosby range of quality Saarinen chair replicas can be customized with a modern range of leather or fabric upholstery options. Its seat is supported by your preference of a selection of wood, or metal, legs as well as a caster wheel version that's ideal as an office task chair. The elegantly contoured seat features an open back and includes armless and armrest versions, offering a versatile seating solution for a range of home or work environments. This classic design won't disappoint as a comfortable, practical, yet stylish seating option for any space.
